My New Obsession

If you know me at all, you know that when I get started on something, I slightly obsess about it.

It doesn't really matter what it is, and when I get tired of it, I put it away.
Sometimes I pick it back up.

Like this one.
In my time of recovery from my injury, I have spent some time reevaluating my destiny in life. :-) At this time, I am enjoying being home with Caleb while Hailey is away at school. And I'm playing with my facepaints.
I found a cool face painting forum online, joined, and have been reading up on technique, style, and information.
I rented a booth at the local flea market and set up to paint faces there. In spite of the weather being absolutely perfect, I did less-than-impressive business. Apparently, people going to the flea market are looking to buy stuff, not get their faces painted. My bad. So I will be keeping my ear to the ground about local fairs and events, hoping to get some real painting done. Meanwhile we also used the booth to sell some stuff lying around here, and made more with that than my painting. HA!
I made up some business cards and brochures, which a fabulously talented printer I know is printing for me. :-)
I had some brilliant ideas about where I will take them once I have them: some places where kids hang out, and parents are looking to spend money on them. I don't mind taking their money! ;-D

Not too proud to beg

Last night my sister and I saw Selah in concert. We have loved their music for years, but more recently, we have become acquainted (through her blog) with Todd Smith's wife, Angie.
So when she posted that Selah would be in concert as closely as Nashville, I called for a road trip. Secretly, we were hoping to meet Angie in person.

We were not disappointed.

After she got settled into her seat with her kids, I went over there, introduced myself, and chatted with her for a few minutes. She was as sweet as I knew she would be, and let us get our picture with her. When I told her my bloggy name, she actually KNEW who I was!

The concert was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! We love Nicol, and miss her in the group, but I was instantly in love with Amy Perry. She is (in her words) a big girl, like me. I can't say how special it was to see someone my own size not relegated (by choice, or demand) to the background. She was inspiring. She gave me hope. I could clearly tell that when she sang, it wasn't about her. She was worshipping her Lord with confidence and I couldn't keep my eyes off her.

We stayed around for autographs and pictures.

It was a L-O-N-G drive home, but TOTALLY worth it!

Treasures Are Worth Far More Than Money

When I was in Hot Springs I came across a porcelain figurine that looked a lot like one I received as a wedding gift. When I unwrapped it, there was no card with it or name on it, so I have no idea where this mystery item came from. I am not much of a nick knack person, so after a while it was relegated to the attic, carefully wrapped in a discarded old robe for safe keeping. What I was planning next, I have no clue. But when I found the one in Hot Springs, I remembered it was up there somewhere. So I went in search of it with the thought of looking it up on line and seeing if it was worth anything. I am so shallow.

Meanwhile, I have been mourning the loss of a bag of photographs from when my kids were babies. They disappeared during our first move, and even though we have moved once more, they have still eluded me. You will never guess what I found when I was looking for the porcelain figurine! Okay, you probably guessed. I found the pictures. I was so happy that I gave up the search. So I have been busy scanning them into the computer and saving them all on a portable zip drive I will store in a fireproof safe. The picture below is Hailey when she was about two. Wasn't she a happy baby? I wonder what happened since then...
